New Zealand's men turn on hockey style

Kiwis run amok to defeat Barbados 13-0.

Hayden Shaw celebrates another goal for New Zealand

Barbados continued to bring Caribbean weather and vocal support for their second Pool 3 match, but Ryan Archibald (NZL) helped himself to four goals and Hayden Shaw grabbed a hat-trick as the Kiwis ran amok.

Unfortunately, despite enjoying a much more solid start than in their opening match against South Africa, and despite the heroics of goalkeeper Paul Inniss, Barbados still found themselves three goals down within the first quarter of an hour.

After Hayden Shaw (NZL) had converted a fifth minute penalty corner, Barbados then conceded twice in the 13th minute from Shaw and Archibald. Barbadosís best chance arrived five minutes later as Shawn Cumberbatch forced a point-blank save from New Zealand keeper Paul Woolford.

At the other end, New Zealandís Umesh Parag further exposed Barbados down the wings as Darren Smith (20 minutes), Philip Burrows (28 minutes) and Parag (33 minutes) extended New Zealandís lead before Hayden Shaw completed his hat-trick on half-time.

Ryan Archibald scored a further three times in four minutes early in the second half, and Mitesh Patel added New Zealandís 11th goal as the Barbados defence was overrun.

The brave efforts of Jeffrey Webb were not enough to stop David Kosoff bundling in New Zealandís 12th goal and Wayne McIndoe was the eighth New Zealand player to get on the scoresheet with 20 minutes still remaining.

Then Inniss and his able understudy goalkeeper, Kenneth McCLean, held out, much to the delight of the near-capacity crowd. Only a painful blow to Emmerson Phillips (BAR), who was stretchered off late on, marred the final quarter of an hour for Barbados.
