Nationally coloured swimming caps are compulsory in the triathlon, these are used for identification purposes. Goggles and noseclips are permitted but are down to athlete discretion. Other swimming aids such as flippers and snorkels, however, are not permitted. Wetsuits will be worn for the event. Wetsuits are controversial as they are do assist the weaker swimmers as they make the body more buoyant.
Athletes must pick up and drop off their bicycles at the designated point into a bike rack and cycle helmets are compulsary. Torsos must remain covered at all times. Cycles will be checked in advance to make sure they fit within competition specifications.
During the run athletes torsos will remain covered. Running shoes will be pre-prepared beforehand to enable a fast entry and so a fast transition.
